71 rescued after passenger vessel ran aground in Northern Samar — PCG

A total of 71 passengers have been rescued after a passenger vessel ran aground in Capul, Northern Samar over the weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday.

In a statement, the PCG said  MV Reina Hosanna faced an engine failure in the vicinity waters off Capul, Northern Samar at around 8 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

MV Reina Immaculada tried to tow MV Reina Hosanna—which departed Matnog, Sorsogon heading to Allen, Northern Samar—but failed when the mooring line tore during the operation.

Due to the strong current, MV Reina Hosanna ran aground the shoreline of Barangay 1.

Personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station Capul, municipal government, and local disaster office conducted a rescue operation for the passengers on board.

The PCG said it keeps monitoring the status of MV Reina Hosanna, including its 30 rolling cargoes. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
