20 land in hospital in road accident in Cebu

At least 20 people landed in the hospital when the van they were riding figured in an accident at a bridge in Cebu on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Four of them sustained serious injuries in the head.

The van was driving up the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) from Cordova town when one of its rear tires reportedly burst, causing the van to turn turtle.

The CCLEX connects Mactan Island to mainland Cebu.

According to Joffre Grande, chief of the Cordova Municipal Police Station, the van was heading to a terminal at a mall in Cebu City, which is located in mainland Cebu.

“Agi siya sa CCLEX, padung niya saka, didto naka-meet og accident. Ang giingon sa witness nga ako naka-estorya, murag nibuto siguro to ang ligid kay mikalit man og turn turtle,” said Nagiel Bañacia, Lapu-Lapu City Crisis manager.

(He was driving along CCLEX when the accident occurred. A witness said it looked like a tire might have burst, causing the vehicle to turn turtle.)

Bañacia’s team responded to the scene.

Vehicle traffic at CCLEX returned to normal an hour after the accident.—GMA Regional TV
