At least a century-old acacia tree fell on two vehicles inside a church parking lot in Taytay, Rizal on Sunday morning amid Tropical Storm Aghon.

Citing Rizal Governor Rebecca Ynares, a dzBB report by Christian Maño reported that the damaged vehicles were a white van and a green SUV that were parked inside the Minor Basilica of John the Baptist.

The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. while Sunday Mass was ongoing.

There were no reported casualties.

In a statement, the Minor Basilica of John the Baptist said the tree was believed to have stood since the 18th century, based on the church’s photos. One account mentioned the tree was planted in the 1830s.

“The parish community, while saddened by the loss of this iconic natural landmark, is grateful that no lives were lost,” Minor Basilica of John the Baptist said.

“Efforts are underway to clear the debris and assess the extent of the damage to the vehicles and surrounding property,” it added.

Meanwhile, dzBB's Rod Vega reported that several residents, especially seniors expressed sadness over the loss of the old tree. Many shared memories on how they played underneath the tree's branches or spent time there before or after church activities. Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
