P1M worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Lanao del Norte

Authorities have seized smuggled cigarettes valued at P1 million in Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 10 reported Thursday.

During a routine mobile patrol, the police noticed that boxes were being loaded inside a parked mini-truck in Barangay Koreo. Upon verification, the contents were confirmed to be smuggled cigarettes, the PNP regional office said in a statement.

The seized items include 66 boxes of cigarettes bearing two brands, 50 reams of a different cigarette brand, and 303 packs of damaged cigarettes.

A 30-year-old male suspect is currently under police custody, along with the seized contraband for proper disposition.

The driver of the truck was also arrested for violation RA 8424 or the Tax Reform Act. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
