Several people hurt in explosion at Legazpi City bldg


An explosion at a commercial building in Barangay Pinaric, Legazpi City, Albay left several people injured at around 11:30 a.m. on July 27, 2024.

The explosion happened during the blessing of a newly opened food stall.

Among those injured was a 71-year-old priest from from Sagrada Familia, Barangay Bogtong, who attended the blessing.

The exact number of people injured is yet to be determined, as of this writing.

Investigation continues to determine what exploded and what caused it.

The explosion damaged the building, including the ceiling and roll-up doors, as well as multiple stalls.

Several vehicles parked outside were also damaged.

The Legazpi City Police Station (CPS) received a call from 911 Legazpi at around 12 p.m.

Emergency responders, including the Emergency Quick Response Team (EQRT), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) were quick to arrive at the scene to provide assistance.

The injured individuals were transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.—RF, GMA Regional TV News
