Motor tanker hits PCG vessel in Cebu fluvial procession
A motor tanker accidentally collided with a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel during the fluvial procession in Pier 2, Cebu City during the celebration of the Fiesta Señor over the weekend, the PCG said Monday.
“During the event, the M/T Sugbu 3 unexpectedly sped up along the port side of BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) and crossed its port bow,” the PCG said in a statement.
In response, Lieutenant Commander Ramon Padillo, the Cape San Agustin’s acting commanding officer, ordered the throttle man to stop all engines.
The Coast Guard crew also deployed a fender to minimize the impact and prevent significant damage to both ships.
No one was harmed during the incident, according to the PCG.
“BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) safely arrived at Pier 1, Cebu City after the fluvial parade procession for the disembarkation of passengers,” the PCG said.
“The crew said no damage was found when they inspected the vessel’s port bow,” it added.
