Over 160 aftershocks recorded after Southern Leyte quake


More than 160 aftershocks have been recorded after the magnitude 5.8 earthquake in Southern Leyte.

More than 160 aftershocks have been recorded after the magnitude 5.8 earthquake in San Francisco, Southern Leyte on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Friday.

As of 6 a.m., PHIVOLCS said it has recorded a total of 166 aftershocks. The magnitude of these aftershocks ranged from 1.5 to 2.9.

It also said that the earthquake occurred offshore around six kilometers from San Francisco at 07:39 a.m. on Thursday. It had a depth of focus of 14 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

Some houses and roads were reportedly damaged due to the earthquake.

Classes were also suspended in some areas on Thursday following the incident.
