Kanlaon Volcano had 5 ash emissions, 16 quakes

Five ash emission events of up to 125 minutes long were monitored at Kanlaon Volcano, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Monday.
PHIVOLCS said that 16 volcano earthquakes, including five volcanic tremors were also recorded at the volcano in Negros Island from Sunday midnight to Monday midnight.
Kanlaon Volcano also spewed a 4,975 tonnes per day of sulfur dioxide, as well as a voluminous 400-meter tall plume that drifted northwest.
Its edifice also remained inflated.
Alert Level 3 is currently raised over Kanlaon Volcano, signaling a magmatic unrest following its eruption on December 9, 2024.
PHIVOLCS has since then recommended evacuation of residents from the six-kilometer radius around the volcano’s summit. Flying of any aircraft close to the volcano is also prohibited.
Possible hazards that may occur include sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density current, rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains. —Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA Integrated News
