Kanlaon Volcano emits ash twice
Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had two ash emission events that lasted up to six minutes long, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Tuesday.
Aside from ash emissions, 10 volcanic earthquakes, including two volcanic tremors, were monitored at the restive volcano. Its edifice also remained inflated.
Kanlaon also released 3,186 tons of sulfur dioxide on Monday, February 3. Likewise, it generated a moderate 400-meter tall plume that drifted southwest.
Alert Level 3 is currently raised over Kanlaon due to a magmatic unrest following its eruption on December 9, 2024.
Evacuation from the six-kilometer radius around the volcano's summit has been recommended.
Possible hazards that may occur include sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density current, rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains. — Giselle Ombay/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
