Authorities seized P43.36 million worth of unauthorized electronics in Meycauayan City, Bulacan, leading to the arrest of its Chinese owner.

In a statement on Thursday, the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said it raided the warehouse of the firm on Wednesday under a search warrant.

They confiscated 3,183 units of smart TVs, including TV assembly, panels, monitors, remote control, back casings, power supplies, speakers, boxes of LED boards and monitors, glass front covers, assorted documents, stickers, and assembly tools.

CIDG also nabbed three other suspects.

The Chinese owner and other suspects were charged with violating the Consumer Act of the Philippines for “manufacturing and offering for sale; distributing in commerce; or importing into the Philippines consumer product which is not in conformity with an applicable consumer product quality or safety standard as promulgated by the law of the Philippines.” —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
