Policeman shot dead allegedly by wife cop in Pampanga —PNP

A policeman was killed after he was shot allegedly by his fellow cop wife in Angeles City, Pampanga, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday.

In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said that on February 3, a neighbor heard a gunshot and saw the victim on the ground in his garage covered in blood.

The neighbor called the police station and returned to the crime scene. Then, the neighbor saw the wife of the victim holding a gun.

According to Fajardo, the victim, who is a police chief master sergeant assigned at Angeles City Police Office, was rushed to the hospital but eventually passed away.

His wife, who is a police staff sergeant assigned to the regional forensic unit, was taken into custody.

“Na-confirm na rin po based po sa ating investigation na yung baril po na nakita sa tabi po ng pulis na napatay ay yung issued firearms po ng kanyang asawang pulis,” Fajardo said.

(It has been confirmed based on our investigation that the gun that was found next to the slain policeman was the firearm issued to his wife.)

“Na-inquest na po kahapon. Iniintay lang natin yung result ng ballistic examination to confirm na yung baril na nakita po sa tabi ng napatay na pulis ay siya mismong ginamit sa pagpatay po sa kaniya,” she added.

(She underwent inquest proceedings yesterday. We are just waiting for the results of the ballistic examination to confirm that the gun that was found next to the slain policeman was the firearm used to kill him.)

About the possible motive, Fajardo said authorities are looking into a marital issue between the couple.

Aside from this, Fajardo said some of the suspect’s coworkers said she seemed anxious and distracted before the incident happened.

The three children of the police couple aged two to 11 were turned over to a relative of their father, according to Fajardo.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
