160-km walk commemorating Bataan Death March to take place in March
A 160-kilometer commemorative march will take place as a tribute to the heroes of the Bataan Death March and the Battle of Bataan.
According to a statement on Friday, the 2025 "Freedom March" will take place on March 1 to 2, and will be done by descendants of World War II Filipino and US veterans, military personnel, government officials, members of the diplomatic community, students, and families.
Led by the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB), in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) and the Department of National Defense (DND), the march will be held in commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Bataan to honor the soldiers who took part in the infamous Death March.
The commemorative walk will follow the exact historical route of the Bataan Death March, starting from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac.
Approximately 66,000 Filipino and 10,000 American prisoners of war were forced to walk the Death March in April 1942.
Interested participants may choose to join the march at their preferred starting points in Bataan, Pampanga and Tarlac.
