Cat shot in Davao City recovering after undergoing surgery

A cat that was shot in Davao City is now in recovery after undergoing surgery.

According to Kuya Kim’s report on “24 Oras,” Bluei, a puspin, was rushed to a veterinary hospital after being shot.

Veterinarian Dr. Ronald Lunar said that Bluei had a 1.33-centimeter bullet in his hind leg.

“Ang surgery is successful. So, we managed to remove the bullet from the hind leg. I think it’s really, really infected,” he said, adding that the puspin was in great pain upon arriving at the hospital.

According to Lunar, Bluei’s owner has already filed a blotter report before the Talomo Police Station in hopes of finding the perpetrator.

Blue has since been discharged from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

“The cat is really doing well. The owner said kumakain na siya, not painful anymore. We are really happy with the progress sa kaniya,” said Lunar.

According to Kuya Kim, animal cruelty, or the unjust treatment towards animals, is a crime in the Philippines.

The wrongful act is a violation of Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

Anyone proven to have violated the law can be imprisoned and fined.

“Depende po kasi ‘yon sa severity ng case. Most probably there will be penalty. ‘Yung implementation kasi hindi siya bumababa sa LGU. Proposal po lagi namin is dapat enforced ‘yung barangay,” Bantay Hayop Davao President Rovie Bullina said.

As to what one can do should he or she witness animal cruelty, Kuya Kim advised to take a photo or video that shows those involved in the incident and where it took place. If possible, try to find the information of other witnesses as this can prove useful in filing a criminal complaint.
