PHIVOLCS: Taal Volcano minor eruption emits 900-meter ash cloud

The Taal Volcano experienced a minor phreatic eruption on Sunday morning.

In a report by Carlo Mateo over Super Radyo dzBB, the eruption occurred at 8:20 a.m.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the eruption lasted for four minutes, with the crater emitting a 900-meter high ash cloud that dissipated while moving in a westerly direction.

The eruption was captured by PHIVOLCS IP cameras in Barangay Buco in the town of Talisay in Batangas and Barangay Barigon in Agoncillo, Batangas.

This is the second phreatic eruption since Saturday. That episode lasted three minutes and 22 seconds.

PHIVOLCS advised that Alert Level 1 is currently in effect over the Taal Volcano. The public is prohibited from entering Taal Volcano Island, specifically its main crater and the Daang Kastila fissures. The advisory also covers travel in Taal Lake. —RF, GMA Integrated News
