Driver dead after multicab hits tree in Valencia, Negros Oriental


A driver died after he lost control of his multicab and hit a tree in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

According to Raffy Tima’s report in “Saksi” on Wednesday, authorities found the driver unresponsive while pinned behind the steering wheel during rescue efforts. 

The driver’s assistant managed to jump from the vehicle before the collision. 

According to the assistant, the multicab driver lost control of the brakes. The latter told him to jump. He believes  the driver intentionally hit a tree to avoid falling off a cliff. 

The police said the multicab was overloaded with bananas, vegetables, and beer bottles. 

The driver’s family did not give a comment following the incident. 

According to data from the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group, there were 25,143 road crash incidents in provinces tallied from January to September 2024. This is higher than the 18,071 incidents logged from the same period in 2023. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
