Kanlaon Volcano emits ash from summit crater
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology released time-lapse footage on Friday showing an early morning ash emission from Kanlaon Volcano’s summit crater.
According to PHIVOLCS, the ash emission occurred from 3:03 a.m. to 3:18 a.m., producing a plume that rose 150 meters above the crater. The event was recorded by the Thermal Camera at the Lower Masulog (VKLM) station in Canlaon City.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that over 8,000 individuals, or 2,000 families, who had lived within the six-kilometer danger zone remained in evacuation centers.
The residents were displaced following the volcano’s eruption on December 9. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
