Content creator in Iloilo sets himself on fire to gain more viewers
A content creator in Calinog, Iloilo suffered second degree burns after he drank gasoline and set himself on fire to attract the attention of viewers.
According to the report of GMA Regional TV’s John Sala in “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the victim Isagani Canja was a former tricycle driver then he decided to go full-time in creating online content.
However, his attempt to gain followers and viewers caused severe burns and had to be confined in the hospital.
“I hope others will not follow what I did because it was very dangerous. To newbies out there, please don’t do similar stunts in your vlogs,” said Canja in vernacular.
Health authorities warned the public that such a stunt could actually pose health risks including cancer.
“Ang chronic exposure ng tao sa petroleum gases can even lead to coma, death, or cancer. How much more na ininom niya? Dapat iwasan talaga,” said Iloilo Provincial Health Office head Ma. Socorro Quinon.

Meanwhile, a sociologist pointed out that the competition on social media has caused content creators to put out contents that are insubstantial just to gain income.
“I think the end goal here is to put out content that will give you income. It’s not a competition where you will just receive an award in the end,” said sociologist Ma. Elisa Baliao in vernacular. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
