3 wounded, suspect nabbed in Antipolo road-rage shooting
A road altercation in Antipolo City on Sunday afternoon escalated into a shooting, leaving three people wounded. Authorities later apprehended the suspected gunman.
According to a statement from the Antipolo police, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. along the Barangay San Jose section of Marcos Highway.
The victims were identified as:
- "Peter", a 52-year-old businessman who sustained a head wound,
- "Patrick", a 22-year-old college student shot in the right arm, and
- "Davis", a 29-year-old who was struck in the right chest while trying to pacify the situation.
All three were rushed to the Cabading Hospital for medical treatment.
Police said the suspect, "Kenneth", a 28-year-old businessman, attempted to flee in his black Toyota Fortuner but was intercepted during a hot pursuit operation. He was apprehended at a checkpoint in Masinag, Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City.
The suspect is currently in police custody as authorities prepare appropriate charges against him.
Antipolo Component City Police Station Acting Chief Police Lt. Col. Ryan Lopez Manongdo urged witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward to aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, Rizal Provincial Police Office Director Police Col. Felipe Maraggun, speaking on Super Radyo dzBB, confirmed that the suspect did not have a Certificate of Authority from the Commission on Elections to carry a firearm, given the ongoing nationwide election gun ban.
Maraggun added that authorities are still investigating the root cause of the altercation.
"Yun ang iniimbestigahan natin ngayon, nang malaman natin kung anong puno’t dulo nito at nagkaroon ng confrontation… Definitely, I assure you, sa kalsada ito. Paggamit siguro ng kalsada, baka nagkagitgitan or whatever," he said.
