Rider in Antipolo road rage shooting dies
The victim in the Antipolo road rage-related shooting who had to be confined in an intensive care unit has died, Antipolo chief of police Police Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo has said.
The suspect in the incident is now facing complaints of murder and multiple frustrated murder.
The shooting incident happened on the Marcos Highway in Antipolo City on Sunday
Four persons were hit – three riders and a woman who was later found to be the suspect's live-in partner.
The suspect used his gun after getting into a fistfight with the two riders following a road altercation.
On Monday evening, Antipolo City Acting Police Chief Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo said three counts of frustrated murder and a case for violation of the election gun ban had been filed against the suspect earlier in the day.
“Tinanggap na po ng Prosecutor’s Office yung sinampa nating complaint against po sa suspect natin. Kung saan ang isinampa natin sa kanya ay three counts of frustrated murder and yung violation po ng gun ban,” he said in a Facebook live video.
(The Prosecutor’s Office already received the complaint we filed against the suspect. So we filed three counts of frustrated murder and for violation of the gun ban.)
“Tapos patay na po yung isang biktima…Yung naisampa natin nitong hapon na three counts of frustrated murders, bale i-amend natin siya kasi patay na po yung nakita nating nakahandusay, yung nabaril sa ulo,” said Manongdo.
(Then one of the victims has passed away…The case we filed in the afternoon was three counts of frustrated murder, so we have to amend that because one of the victims already died. He’s the one who was lying on the floor, the one shot in the head.)
Manongdo said they will “upgrade” the case against the suspect on April 2.
Police earlier said the suspect, "Kenneth", a 28-year-old businessman, attempted to flee in his black Toyota Fortuner but was intercepted during a hot pursuit operation. He was apprehended at a checkpoint in Masinag, Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City.
All the three victims were rushed to the Cabading Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect is currently in police custody.
Manongdo advised the motoring public to control its emotions to avoid road rage incidents.
“Sana matuto na tayo sa mistake nila…Alam niyo ego lang ‘yan…You really need to evaluate kung alin ba ang mas mahalaga,” he said.
