PH, Japan inaugurate Cagayan de Oro flood warning center
The Cagayan de Oro River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, which will help strengthen disaster preparedness in the surrounding communities, was inaugurated in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental on Friday.
According to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, the center provides additional X-band radars, rainfall gauging stations, and an upgraded telecommunication network along the Cagayan de Oro River Basin.
The center will help improve information accuracy and provide relevant flood warnings to areas in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.
“This initiative is a crucial step in ensuring the well-being of communities, especially as the frequency and intensity of natural disasters continue to pose challenges to the country’s socioeconomic development. By focusing on disaster risk reduction, the Philippines is laying the groundwork for a safer, more resilient future for its citizens,” said Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya during the inauguration ceremony that was also attended by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. and other government officials.
