Comelec orders Silang, Cavite mayoral bet to explain campaign remarks

The Commission on Elections ordered Friday Silang, Cavite mayoral candidate Alston Kevin Anarna to explain his remarks during his campaign activity on March 29, 2025.

In a show cause order signed by Director Sonia Bea Wee-Lozada, head of Comelec's Task Force on Safeguarding Against Fear and Exclusion in Elections, Anarna was given three days to explain why a complaint for election offense or petition for disqualification should not be filed against him.

The task force noted that Anarna said during his campaign activity that several people pinched his butt and a grandmother even gave him a torrid kiss.

Anarna also told solo parents that he will give them partners through a raffle.

"Sino dito ang mga solo parents? Bakit parang dumami ang solo parents? Kasi lahat ng solo parents bibigyan natin ng libreng asawa. Ang gagawin natin lahat ng balong lalake at lahat ng balong babae ira-raffle na lang natin 'yan ha pasensiyahan na lang tayo kung kanino kayo mapupunta kasi pagkabunot ng pangalan Ninyo derecho kasal kay Mayor Kevin," he said

(Who are the solo parents here? Why is it your number is increasing? We will give all solo parents here a free partner? We will raffle all the widower and widow, we don't know who you will end up with but once your name is picked I will preside over your marriage.)

The poll body said these utterances can be considered as gender-based harassment under Comelec Resolution 11116 or the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines in relation to Republic Act 11313.

Comelec has earlier issued show cause orders against several candidates for uttering remarks against women and their rivals. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
