Jeep carrying excursionists crashes in Miag-ao, Iloilo on Black Saturday


A private jeep bringing excursionists to a beach resort in San Joaquin, Iloilo crashed in the municipality of Miag-ao on Black Saturday morning.

Based on initial information gathered by GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, at least 60 people were on board the jeep, many of them children.

Thirty-eight passengers were hurt in the accident that occurred in Barangay Maninila.

Most of the passengers were brought to the district hospital in the municipality of Guimbal and the Rural Health Center of Miag-ao for treatment. One other person was brought to Iloilo City after sustaining a leg fracture.

The jeep came from the municipality of Alimodian, according to a report of Sevein Hope Gegantoca of Super Radyo Iloilo.

 

The incident occurred at 8 a.m., according to a report on 24 Oras Weekend by Kim Salinas of GMA Regional TV.

Investigation by Miag-ao Police revealed that the driver was not able to control the steering wheel when the vehicle reached a curve and sloping portion of the highway.

Among those injured were 19 minors and the driver of the vehicle.

 

Police said the jeep was overloaded. One passenger who was injured was in fact on the jeep's roof.

The jeep and the driver are already in police custody.

The driver may face charges.
