Lakas candidates lead in Albay mayoral races, survey shows

A recent SWS survey showed that Lakas-CMD mayoral candidates are leading races in Legazpi City and eight other towns in Albay.

The survey was conducted from March 29 to April 5, 2025 using face-to-face interviews of 3,370 registered voters in the province of Albay, with 1,065 in District 1, 1,110 in District 2, and 1,195 in District 3.

This gives sampling error margins of ±1.7% for Total Albay Province, ±3.0% for District 1, ±2.9% for District 2, and ±2.8% District 3.

It showed that in other municipalities, the party’s candidates are in a close second place.

In Legazpi City, Lakas candidate Kap Hisham Ismail was shown to lead in the survey with 39% voter support, ahead of Carmen Geraldine Rosal (PDP-Laban) at 32%.

Lakas-CMD candidates also led in the municipalities of Malinao, Sto. Domingo, Tiwi, Camalig, Daraga, Rapu-Rapu, Pio Duran, and Polangui.

Meanwhile, in Malinao, Leny Ceriola was in a “statistical tie” with LP’s Shie Capus, according to the SWS survey.

On the other hand, Jun Aguas was dominant over PFP’s Bong Banda in Sto. Domingo, while Russel Reyes was ahead of LP’s Jojo Climaco in Tiwi.

Caloy Baldo was also leading compared to Noel Muñoz of PDP-Laban in Camalig, while Lhal Baldo was ahead of PDP-Laban’s Vic Perete in Daraga.

Otoy Galicia dominated PDP-Laban’s Wilson Gulanan in Rapu-Rapu, according to the survey.

It also showed that Vangie Arandia was leading the race compared to NUP’s Ate Kap BB-Ghie Bazar-Gurat in Pio Duran.

Meanwhile, Jesciel Salceda was ahead of independent Andy Mariscotes in Polangui.

In several other towns, Lakas candidates were also “running a competitive second.” They held second place, though by wider margins, in Malilipot, Ligao City, and Oas.

When it comes to the gubernatorial race, Lakas bet Joey Salceda was leading over former Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal of PDP-Laban.

The said party’s candidates were also leading in all three congressional districts of Albay, including 1st District Representative Raul Angelo "Jil" Bongalon, former Ako Bicol Representative Christopher "Kito" Co and incumbent Polangui Mayor Adrian Salceda. — BM, GMA Integrated News
