Principal in viral toga video removed from post
Malacañang said that the principal who ordered students to remove their togas during a graduation ceremony in Antique has been removed from her post.
''Ang sinasabi pong guro ay tinanggal na po bilang principal sa nasabing eskwelahan,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a briefing on Friday
(The teacher has been removed as principal of the school.)
''Tinanggal lamang po siya sa pagiging principal, 'yung license naman po niya ay di naman manggagaling sa paguutos ng Pangulo o DepEd Secretary,'' she added.
(She was only removed from being a principal. Her license did not come from the order of the President or DepEd Secretary.)
The Department of Education earlier said there was no policy prohibiting the wearing of togas.
''There is no prohibition under DepEd Memorandum No. 27, s. 2025 and under DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2023, the prescribed attire for graduation and moving-up ceremonies includes casual or formal wear or the school uniform,'' the DepEd said.
"The toga or sablay may be worn as an optional supplementary garment," it added.
The Schools Division of Antique said that it had already organized an investigation team and ordered the school head and other concerned officials to submit an incident report with an appropriate intervention plan. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
