AKF to file case vs. man who allegedly killed cat in Bulacan
The Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) is determined to file charges against a man who hurled a cat to the ground in a wet market in Meycauayan, Bulacan, which allegedly caused its death.
In Nico Waje’s Monday report on “Saksi,” the man was walking when he suddenly grabbed the cat and hurled it to the ground twice.
The people in the market were caught off guard as the man walked away as if nothing had happened.
They did not catch the man as they prioritized reviving the cat.
According to a witness, the cat stood up after about 20 minutes, and since they thought it was fine, the people did not bring it to the veterinarian.
In a video, the cat was seen having difficulty walking. It eventually died.
Authorities were unable to find the man in his stall in the market.
“Ayon sa ating Animal Welfare Act, 'pag namatay yung hayop na naging biktima ng pagmamaltrato o pang-aabuso ay mas mataas ang penalty nito na umaabot sa dalawang taon o multa hanggang P100,000,” said AKF Program Director Heidi Marquez.
(According to the Animal Welfare Act, once the animal victim dies, the penalty is more grave, which could be up to two years of detainment or up to P100,000.)
The AKF said it will talk to the municipal veterinary office to know what could be done for the cats in the wet market.
“Ang importante kasi diyan ay sync spay and neuter. Hayaan mo we will meet with the market and vendor association at sa kanilang city vet or municipal agriculturist para mag conduct ng education campaign at magkaroon ng rabies vaccination at saka pagkakapon ng pusa,” Marquez said.
