Augustinians in Cebu post confrere, Pope Leo XIV, photos of 2004 visit

The Augustinian community in Cebu, in celebration of the election of a new pope belonging to the same religious order, was nostalgic as they posted Pope Leo XIV's previous visits to the province.

"With great joy, the Augustinian Province of Santo Niño de Cebu – Philippines joins the Catholic Church in praying for Robert Cardinal Prevost, OSA — now Pope Leo XIV — as he begins his ministry as the 267th Supreme Pontiff," according to the post of members of the Order of Saint Augustine - Province of Santo Niño de Cebu, Philippines.

"We’re also sharing in this post a few photos of then-Fr. Robert Prevost with our Augustinian friars," they added.

Based on information posted on the Vatican website, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., is the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and Archbishop-Bishop emeritus of Chiclayo.

He was born on September 14, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois and in 1977 entered the novitiate of the Order of Saint Augustine (O.S.A.) in the province of Our Lady of Good Counsel, in Saint Louis.

On 29 August 1981 he gave his solemn vows. He studied at the Catholic Theological Union of Chicago, receiving a diploma in theology. He was ordained a bishop in 2014.

On April 15, 2020, the Pope appointed him apostolic administrator of the diocese of Callao.

He was appointed Cardinal on January 30, 2023. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
