12 persons arrested for alleged violation of liquor ban ahead of Election Day
At least 12 individuals were arrested in Ormoc City, Leyte for allegedly violating the liquor ban a day before the National and Local Elections, according to the report of Rhommel Balasbas on Super Radyo BZBB.
Nine people were arrested Sunday morning in Barangay Doña Feliza Z. Mejia in Ormoc City, they were caught drinking beer.
Three others were arrested in Barangay San Antonio in the same city for drinking liquor in a public place.
Comelec Resolution No. 11057 or liquor ban states that it is prohibited can sell, give, offer, buy liquor until the end of the Election Day, violation of anyone caught would be imprisoned for up to six years.
Starting Sunday, May 11, 2025, all forms of campaigning are prohibited as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) enforces the mandatory campaign silence period ahead of election day.
This also comes with the implementation of the nationwide liquor ban.
Election Day is on Monday, May 12, with polling precincts opening as early as 5 a.m. to allow senior citizens, persons with disability, and pregnant registered voters to cast their votes early until 7 a.m.
Regular voting hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
