Voting in Cebu school halted as glitch hits 7 counting machines

Voting in the precincts of Guadalupe Elementary School in Cebu City was temporarily put to a halt on Election Day, Monday, as seven automated counting machines (ACM) encountered technical issues.

According to Alan Domingo's report on GMA Regional TV, voting was halted even in express lanes, making voters wait for up to an hour.

Jonah Cordero, who chairs the Electoral Board of the affected precincts, said ballots were not fed into the machines when the problem arose.

However, the machine scanners were cleaned by an on-site DESO Technical Support Staff, paving the way for voting to resume, Cordero said.

Guadalupe Elementary School in Cebu City is the largest voting center in the area. It is also where several candidates are expected to vote.

At least 721,469 registered voters in Cebu City are scheduled to vote on Monday, whereas the whole of Cebu has 3.4 million registered voters. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
