Shooting near Abra poll site sends 2 to hospital
Gunfire near a polling center in Bangued, Abra disrupted voting morning on election day and sent two people to the hospital.
In a report by Jonathan Andal on the #Eleksyon2025 special coverage of GMA Integrated News, shots rang out around 7 a.m. near Sagap Elementary School in Barangay Sagap, causing panic among voters.
Video taken at the scene showed people running. Some fainted during the commotion. Voting stopped for a few minutes but resumed later.
The barangay captain said the shooting happened about 200 meters away, near a river, and not inside the school grounds.
Police said they earlier saw several men in white shirts get out of two vehicles and take videos in front of the school. The men caused a disturbance but were not seen carrying guns.
About one to two minutes after the group left, gunfire was heard nearby.
Police have heightened presence in the area to ensure voter safety.
As of now, it remains unclear who fired the shots and whether the victims were targeted or hit by stray bullets. The two victims were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and back. They are yet to release statements. — GMA Regional TV
