Cebu Archdiocese’s C-CIMPEL hopes for a peaceful election

Cebu Archdiocese's C-CIMPEL hopes for a peaceful election

The Cebu-Citizens Involvement for People's Empowerment and Liberation (C-CIMPEL) is hoping for a peaceful Election 2025.

C-CIMPEL is the political education arm of the Archdiocese of Cebu, the citizen’s arm of the Comelec, and is accredited by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV). They also give political educations before, during, and after the elections.

In an interview with GMA News Online on Monday morning, the organization’s Assistant Executive Director Delilah Labajo said that election day “really needs prayerful volunteers, Filipino citizens, and so on, until results are released.”

“We hope na walang ma-disenfranchise, okay ‘yung flow ng election process, sa counting or walang mapalyado na mga machines for the transmission. Tapos sa canvassing, that’s also our wish na it would be relatively peaceful,” Labajo said.

(We hope nobody will be disenfranchised, that the election process will flow properly, and that no machines will malfunction for the transmission. Also when it comes to canvassing, that’s also our wish na it would be relatively peaceful.)

She added her hope that after the election, “‘yung mga matatalo [those who lose] will accept the results and everybody will accept the results. And of course, I think it's for those who are really concerned with our country, it's a great hope for us now, na [mawawala] ‘yung vote buying [that vote-buying will disappear], and that Filipinos really vote wisely.”

As of 10 a.m., the only reports from C-CIMPEL volunteers are about “very few” machine problems, but the Comelec would resolve these.

“Hopefully, it would really be peaceful na walang dahas na mangyayari [and no violence will occur] throughout the voting period and even after the transmission.”

She added, “We are really hoping to have a peaceful election, and after the election, we also hope that the Filipinos, the Cebuanos in particular, we already choose the better politicians that the Filipinos truly deserve.” — BM, GMA Integrated News
