Despite suspension, Capil wins new term as Porac mayor; daughter elected vice mayor
Suspended Mayor Jaime “Jing” Capil has secured a third consecutive term as mayor of Porac, Pampanga, winning the May 2025 elections despite facing controversy over alleged links to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities.
Capil garnered a total of 39,939 votes, successfully fending off challengers former Vice Mayor Atty. Charlie Santos (3,744) and Michael “Mike” Tapang (23,063).
His reelection comes amid ongoing public discourse over accountability and leadership, particularly after the 2024 raid on Lucky South 99 — a POGO facility in Porac that drew national attention and triggered a broader government crackdown on illegal operations.
Running alongside him was his daughter, Jen Capil, who clinched the vice mayoralty with 39,342 votes as against the 25,926 votes of Vincent Lusung, the running mate of Tapang.
According to the Commission on Elections, voter turnout in Porac reached 84.97%, with over 80,000 registered voters participating in the electoral exercise.
The town comprises 29 barangays— the largest municipality in Pampanga.
The election results underscore the Capils’ enduring political influence in Porac, even as critics question the implications of reelecting an incumbent under suspension.
Several of his supporters gathered outside the Porac municipal hall to wait for the ' final tally.
"Maraming nagawa dito si Capil kaya kahit may ganoong issue, sa kaniya pa rin kami susuporta. Marami pa siyang magagawa lalo sa panalo niya," said one resident. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
