Ex-VP Leni Robredo proclaimed new Naga City mayor

Former Vice President Leni Robredo was proclaimed Tuesday as the winner of the Naga City mayoral race by the City Board of Canvassers.

Robredo was declared winner with over 84,000 votes or over 91% of the votes cast.

With her victory, Robredo said it only proves that the fight for good governance should be relentless and nurtured.

“Kagagaling lang namin sa pinakamatinding baha so kailangan namin ayusin yung mga infrastructure na makakatulong sa amin para maging resilient,” Robredo told GMA Integrated News’ Saleema Refran after her proclamation.

(We just went through the worst flooding so we have to fix infrastructures which would make us resilient.)

“Gusto namin maging pinakamagaling sa education, health, gusto namin tutukan iyong environment kasi ang lugar namin prone sa calamities…pero at the core of it kasi, good governance e,” Robredo said.

(We also want to be the best in education, health ... we want to focus on the environment because we are in a calamity-prone area ... but the core of it all is good governance.)

“We want to strengthen the mechanisms that are already attainable because we saw an erosion of this [good governance] in the last few years. The lesson really here is the fight for good governance is really continuing. It should not be stagnant,” Robredo added.

Robredo said it is also important that good governance is institutionalized so that new leaders are all able to step in with ease.

“Magiging big kami on metrics. Lahat sinusukat. Aside from making our city a happy place for Nagueños, we want to initiate projects replicable all over the country,” Robredo added.
