Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Matthew Manotoc proclaimed Ilocos Norte gov, vice gov


Cecilia Araneta Marcos on Tuesday was proclaimed as governor of Ilocos Norte after winning in Eleksyon 2025.

The governor-elect obtained 299,037 votes to beat independent candidate Joy Butay.

In a statement, Araneta Marcos said she is honored to accept the responsibility of serving as Ilocos Norte's new governor. She also thanked her supporters who trusted and voted for her. 

''As we take pride in leading our beloved province of Ilocos Norte, I commit myself to continue the good governance and meaningful programs that Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc has started,'' she said.

''I will also carry forward the hopes and dreams of my late husband, then Board Member Mariano Nonong Marcos II, with the same love and dedication he had for our province,''Araneta Marcos added. 

Cecilia is the wife of former vice governor Mariano Marcos II, cousin of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. 

Meanwhile, her nephew who ran unopposed, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, was also proclaimed as the vice governor by the Provincial Board of Canvassers after garnering 313,943 votes. 

Matthew is the son of incumbent Senator Imee Marcos.

As he extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Ilokano community, Matthew also vowed to continue working for a more progressive Ilocos Norte. —RF, GMA Integrated News
