Pinedas maintain control of Pampanga capitol

The Pinedas continue to dominate Pampanga's political landscape.

On Tuesday, the provincial board of canvassers announced that the mother-son tandem of Lilia and Dennis Pineda secured the province's top executive positions following the May 12 midterm elections.

Lilia Pineda will return to her old post as governor after taking 707,782 votes. She defeated independent candidates Danilo Baylon (475,200 votes) and Amado Santos (6,835 votes).

Dennis Pineda was elected vice governor (748,990 votes), beating former governor Eddie Panlilio, who received 385,926 votes.

The results were based on 97.77% of election returns processed, with Pampanga having 1,674,789 registered voters, making it the second most vote-rich province in Central Luzon.

The establishment of the local party, Kapanalig at Kambilan ning Memalen Pampanga (KAMBILAN), by Lilia Pineda in 2012, has been crucial to strengthening their support base and maintaining their position as the province's dominant political force. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
