Lightning kills 2 cops in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro
Two policemen died when lightning struck them while roving the streets of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday evening, according to Governor Humerlito "Bonz” Dolor on Thursday.
"Nasawi ang dalawang pulis matapos tamaan ng kidlat sa parking area ng Regional Mobile Force Battalion Headquarters ng [Police Regional Office] 4B sa bayan ng Naujan, Oriental Mindoro," Dolor said in Facebook post.

Citing information from the police, Dolor said the two victims were struck by lightning at the parking area of the police camp at around 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. amid heavy rains.
The two cops were brought to Mindoro Medical Center but they were declared dead on arrival, the governor said.
In a separate statement, Police Regional Office - MIMAROPA chief Police Brigadier General Roger Quesada identified the victims as Patrolman Laudelino Samarita Lomio II and Patrolman Ruzzel Jay Ferrer Fontarum.
“Their tragic loss is a painful reminder of the silent risks our personnel face in service to the nation. On behalf of PRO MIMAROPA, we extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” Quesada said.
“Their dedication and courage will never be forgotten. May they rest in eternal peace,” he added.
PRO MIMAROPA will provide assistance to the bereaved families of the two police officers.
“We are committed to providing full assistance, benefits, and honors to ensure their sacrifices are rightfully recognized and their families supported during this difficult time,” Quesada said. — VDV/VBL, GMA Integrated News
