Davao bypass tunnel adopting earthquake-ready architecture —DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the Davao bypass tunnel being constructed is sturdy enough to withstand calamities like an earthquake.
In a “Saksi” report on Wednesday, DPWH said once the bypass project is complete, it will be the longest tunnel in the country, cutting travel time by one hour from Toril, Davao City to Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
The first package of the 45.5-kilometer tunnel in Davao is now 60% finished, the department added.
The construction still needs to undergo five packages to complete the tunnel.
CCTV cameras, lights, loudspeakers, and emergency phones will be installed. There will also be a road in the middle for emergencies.
Its distance can be compared to the length of travel from the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
