90 people rescued from distressed vessel in Tawi-Tawi
Up to 90 passengers were rescued from a distressed vessel off the coast of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
According to the Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC), the vessel had departed Pangutaran, Sulu and was en route to Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi when its engine reportedly malfunctioned.
The BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS176) immediately proceeded to the last known location of the vessel near Languyan Island to rescue the passengers.
"The Navy ship rendered assistance by safely towing the motor launch to Chinese Pier in Bongao, where it was securely moored without further incident," the WMNC said.
"This successful maritime rescue operation underscores the Philippine Navy's unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives at sea and ensuring safe passage for vessels transiting within the Western Mindanao area of responsibility," it added. — with reports from Efren Mamac, GMA Regional TV One Mindanao/ GMA Regional TV
