Senior citizen shoots motorist, passenger in Tanay road rage

An elderly man was arrested for shooting another motorist and the latter's passenger during a road rage incident in Tanay, Rizal, on Sunday.

According to EJ Gomez’s exclusive report in “Balitanghali” on Monday, the investigation showed that the elderly driver took over the lane of a pickup vehicle.

The suspect’s side mirror hit the side of the pickup, and it suddenly stopped, causing the two vehicles to hit each other.

The suspect confronted the driver of the pickup vehicle, which carried four passengers. He went back to his car to get his gun and shot the victim repeatedly.

“Yung driver ang nasa critical condition. Pinagbabaril niya, multiple shots, and then umikot siya sa kabilang side at binaril din yung kasama sa kabilang upuan, sa paa tinamaan,” said Rizal Provincial Police Office provincial director Police Colonel Feloteo Gonzalgo.

(The driver is in critical condition. The suspect fired multiple shots at him and went to the other side to shoot the other passenger, who was hit in the feet.)

The passenger who was shot was already discharged from the hospital, while the pickup vehicle driver is still recovering.

The police chased the suspect until he was cornered at a checkpoint in Morong.

Authorities found a 40-caliber pistol, bullets, and two sharp objects inside the suspect’s car.

“May blinker pa sa loob ng sasakyan, para bang talagang ginagamit na niya sa kanyang pagtakas, for example, para mabilis siyang makaalis,” Gonzalgo said.

(We also found a blinker inside the car, and it seems that he is using that to evade authorities.)

The suspect is now detained at Tanay Municipal Station, but he refused to give a comment on the matter.

“Umamin siya na siya yung bumaril dahil sa sobrang galit,” said Gonzalgo.

(He admitted to shooting the victim out of anger.)

The elderly suspect is now facing charges for frustrated murder, reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries and damage to properties, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
