The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Wednesday shut down a beauty salon and a training center in Imus, Cavite for allegedly recruiting workers for Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, DMW said it conducted an investigation from July 5, 11 and July 1 upon the request of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - Cavite North District, as there were reports of alleged illegal recruitment occurring in the said businesses.

Investigation revealed the salon allegedly charged applicants ?15,000 for purported training in hairstyling and spa services and for referring them to an employer, with a promise of a ?35,000 monthly salary.

Authorities simultaneously raided the two establishments, where one beautician was found in the salon while, a caretaker and three applicants were at the learning center, which also serves as accommodation for the applicants.

The DMW said the owners of the two establishments are facing charges of violating the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act.

Authorities will also recommend revoking their Certificate of Business Name Registrations to the Department of Trade and Industry.

These are the 17th and 18th alleged illegal recruitment establishments shut down by the DMW in 2025.

DMW also called on the victims of the two establishments to coordinate with the agency through its hotline (+63 2 8721-0619), email (email mwpb@dmw.gov.ph), and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/dmwairtip). — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
