Driver dead after dump truck rams house, sari-sari store in Rizal
The 43-year-old driver of a dump truck died after his vehicle crashed into a house and sari-sari store in Binangonan, Rizal.
According to EJ Gomez’s Wednesday report on “Balitanghali,” the house owner sustained injuries in the accident.
“Naupo ako rito para magpalamig sa tapat nung aircon hanggang bigla na lang may sumabog tapos biglang umano sa akin yung aircon. Ito nga nasugat. Tapos, paglabas namin, nakita namin yung mukha ng truck nandyan na,” the house owner said.
(I was just sitting here to cool off in front of the aircon when I heard an explosion, and the aircon hit me. I got hurt. Outside, we saw the smashed front of the truck.)
One of his pet dogs was killed after the animal was hit by a falling cement block.
Meanwhile, no one was injured in the sari-sari store since the owner had gone out to eat.
According to the passenger of the dump truck, the driver asked him to remove the wheel chock since they had finished collecting garbage in the area.
It was uncertain whether the truck’s engine was running at that time, but the vehicle suddenly went downhill.
The Rizal Provincial Police is investigating the incident.
Authorities had difficulty removing the truck driver’s body from the wreckage since the cab was crumpled by the impact.
The truck driver is survived by his live-in partner and three children.
“Sobrang hirap kasi siya lang naghahanap buhay sa amin. Pati yung mga anak ko iyak ng iyak hinahanap papa niya,” the truck driver’s live-in partner said.
(It’s difficult because he’s the only one with work. Our children have been crying, looking for their father.)
The barangay officials assured that they will help the truck driver’s family.
They are also coordinating with the owners of the house and sari-sari store to settle the damage caused by the accident.— Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
