One missing in landslide in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte

A joint search and rescue (SAR) operation was conducted in Barangay San Ramon, San Ricardo town, Province of Southern Leyte, following a landslide caused by torrential rainfall at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The operation was carried out in search for a missing individual identified as Dador Moscosa, 54 years old, married, and a resident of San Policarpo town, Province of Eastern Samar.

He was employed reportedly as a foreman by a construction firm, and was purportedly within the affected site at the time of the incident.

According to Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas, in a post, personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) San Ricardo, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense Region (OCD) 8, Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Philippine Army, and local volunteers, responded to the incident.

“To support the operation, backhoe equipment was deployed to clear large debris from critical areas of the landslide site. The excavation work was closely supervised by DPWH and ACY 888 Construction personnel to ensure the safety of responders and to prevent further soil destabilization,” the post reads.

“Due to limited visibility and operational constraints at night, the SAR team opted to temporarily suspend operations. Search and recovery efforts are scheduled to resume at first light tomorrow [July 14, 2025]. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas added.
