Magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck offshore Ilocos Norte —PHIVOLCS


A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit offshore Ilocos Norte on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said. 

The tectonic earthquake's epicenter was located in the waters near Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

It had a depth of 27 kilometers and occurred at around 10:38 a.m.

PHIVOLCS said instruments recorded that Intensity IV was felt in the areas of Claveria in Cagayan, San Nicolas and Solsona in Ilocos Norte, and Sinait and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur.

Gonzaga, Cagayan recorded Intensity III, while Bangued in Abra, Penablanca in Cagayan, and Narvacan in Ilocos Sur had Intensity II.

Meanwhile, Intensity I was recorded in Candon, Ilocos Sur and Ilagan, Isabela.
