Caticlan Airport to get world-class passenger terminal by 2027

The Caticlan Airport, gateway to world-renowned Boracay Island, is set to have a world-class passenger terminal by 2027, according to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, to officially launch the construction of the new terminal, the project is expected to boost tourism, improve airport operations, and enhance the overall travel experience for both local and international passengers.

“Kahapon din nagpunta ang ating Pangulo sa Boracay, Caticlan Airport... matagal nang pinaplano ito. Sabi nga ni Mr. Ramon Ang ay 2009 pa dapat sinimulan... hindi natapos,” said Secretary Dizon during the Malacañang press briefing on Tuesday.

(Yesterday, the President also visited Boracay and Caticlan Airport... this project has been in the pipeline for a long time. Mr. Ramon Ang said it was supposed to start back in 2009 but was not completed.)

“Nagpasalamat si Mr. Ramon Ang sa ating Pangulo na finally magagawa na ang bagong terminal despite all of the challenges over the past more than ten years... matatapos siya sa loob ng dalawang taon,” he added.

(Mr. Ramon Ang thanked the President that the new terminal will finally be built, despite all the challenges over the past decade... and not just started, but finished within two years.)

“So, by 2027, tapos na ang bagong terminal... para sa Boracay, Caticlan... magkakaroon na ng world-class passenger terminal by 2027,” he said.

(So by 2027, the new terminal will be completed... for Boracay and Caticlan... there will be a world-class passenger terminal by 2027.)

The terminal will include upgraded check-in facilities, modern baggage handling systems, advanced security features, and wider boarding gates — designed to reduce queues and serve up to 7 million passengers annually, a significant increase from the current 4 million.

A partnership between San Miguel Corporation and Megawide Construction Corporation, the project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the expansion will play a key role in sustaining the country’s tourism-driven growth, with tourism contributing 8% of the Philippines’ GDP.

Once completed, the new Caticlan terminal is expected to complement Boracay’s international appeal with infrastructure that meets global standards. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
