Several areas in PH experienced flooding, landslides due to Crising, Habagat
Numerous houses were damaged by raging floodwaters as several areas in the country experienced inclement weather even before Tropical Depression Crising made landfall but with the effects of the southwest monsoon or Habagat.
According to Mark Salazar’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” a resident was almost swept away by a raging flood in Tibiao, Antique, which resulted from a canal overflowing in the area.
Residents in Culasi, Antique braved the thigh-level flood while the water entered some classrooms.
Some areas in Barangay Poblacion in Sebaste were also flooded, while another area had a landslide.
Traffic was impeded by floodwaters in Sto. Rosario, Tibiao.
In Barangay Botas, Patnongon, a hanging bridge was damaged, affecting several residents.
The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is closely monitoring the levels of 10 rivers in the province.
“Mula kaninang umaga, continuous dito ang moderate to heavy rain especially sa Central and Northern Antique. Mino-monitor natin ang lahat na mga ilog dahil medyo may pagtaas ng tubig,” said Broderick Train, Antique PDRRMO head.

Meanwhile, some teachers were stranded due to the overflowing spillway in Pamplona, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Another spillway was damaged in Libertad town.
Farm animals were not spared from the effects of the bad weather, including a pig that was rescued after its pen in Barangay Pacuan was destroyed.
In Baclayon, Bohol, sea trips to Pamilacan Island were canceled due to the strong winds.
A fishing vessel ran aground in Zamboanga City. All of its passengers were safe, and the Philippine Coast Guard is assessing the vessel.
Some houses were damaged by the strong waves in Sitio Caragasan, Zamboanga City.
Three houses were reportedly totally damaged, while another three were partially damaged.
In other parts of Caragasan, residents endured a calf-level flood.
Motorists experience heavy traffic in some parts of Cotabato City due to the flood.
The Marbol River overflowed, threatening the lives of motorists crossing a spillway bridge.
Water entered some houses near the stream in Lebak, Sultan. The Coast Guard station conducted rescue operations to rescue some families trapped in their houses and brought them to evacuation centers.
In Albay, classes were suspended due to heavy rains.
National government response
Due to the looming impact of the Crising, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered several government agencies to be prepared.
“Katulad po sa NDRRMC, nag-raise na po sila ng alert status noon pa pong July 16 as of 11a.m. at nagko-conduct na rin po sila ng pre-disaster risk assessment at nag activate na rin po ng virtual emergency operations center,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said.
