3 dead in Cavite landslide

One person died in a landslide along the boundary of the town of Silang and Tagaytay City in Cavite province on Thursday.

According to a “Saksi” report, Tagaytay City Mayor Brent Tolentino said a construction barracks in Barangay Iruhin West was buried in soil and a collapsed wall.

Emergency responders are still searching for the two missing persons.

Meanwhile, the person rescued from the site is now recovering in the hospital.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Chino Gaston on Friday, two other bodies were retrieved.

“Yung mga bubong [ang nakatabong sa kanya]. Bubong ng yero, tyaka ng lupa,” said the victim’s relative Junnel Muñoz.

(The roof [covered him]. It was a steel roof, as well as soil.)

“Initially po, ang nangyari ay nagkaroon po ng collapse ng structure ng wall. Nagcollapse, kaya po yung lupa sa taas ay gumuho po papunta dun sa side ng mayroon pong barracks nung worker naman po sa kabilang property,” said Tagaytay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Head Jose Clyde Yayong added.

(Initially, what happened was a collapse of the wall structure. It collapsed, which is why the soil at the top also collapsed toward the side of the workers’ barracks at the next property.)

Tagaytay City Hall has said it will assist with the funeral of the victims.

It added it would coordinate with the municipal hall regarding the legal responsibilities of the lot owner.

“It’s a bit tricky sir, kasi yung nag-collapse na wall is on the Silang side, di ba yung nahulugan lang is from the other property is Tagaytay. (It’s a bit tricky sir, because the collapsed wall is on the Silang side and the victims were at the other property in Tagaytay.) We would have to coordinate again with the LGU of Silang regarding their permits if they were updated and checked accordingly,” said Tagaytay Mayor Brent Tolentino.— Mariel Celine Serquiña/Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
