Search and rescue ops for those on board capsized boat in Cardona, Rizal

Three people died after their motorbanca capsized in Cardona, Rizal, the Philippine Coast Guard said Saturday.

Two people meanwhile were rescued by personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Rizal, the PCG said.

Their small motorbanca capsized in the vicinity waters off Barangay Navotas on Tuesday, July 29.

The victims said they came from Barangay Subay in Cardona and were on their way to Pililla also in Rizal Province when the boat's right outrigger boom broke causing the vessel to capsize.

There were five of them aboard the motorbanca at the time of the incident, the survivors said.

CGS Rizal personnel thus continued searching on July 31 and were able to retrieve one lifeless body.

They immediately brought the body to the nearest shoreline where it was later identified by the brother of the victim, the PCG said.

Two more bodies were found during search and rescue operations.

They were identified by their families on Friday, August 1.

The PCG said the bodies were turned over to the Municipal Police for proper investigation and disposition. —KG, GMA Integrated News
