Isang-enhanced Habagat causes floods, landslides in provinces

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat enhanced by Tropical Depression Isang caused floods and landslides in some provinces.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report in “24 Oras,” a landslide occurred in San Vicente, Palawan. The municipality stated that the ground may have given way due to the non-stop rains of the past two days.

The landslide also caused several motorists going in and out of Barangay Port Barton to be stranded. Clearing operations are underway, the report said.

On the other hand, residents crossed a river in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, while carrying a casket for a fellow resident who died. However, the video uploader stated that the river is passable when there is no flooding.

Meanwhile, the center of town proper in Tantangan, South Cotabato experienced knee-deep flood. Many residents were affected after the water overflowed on the bridge, according to the video uploader.

In Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat, residents had to save their household items after the water level in the creek rose rapidly due to the heavy rains.

A pick-up truck in Datu Blah Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Sur was swept away by the raging river. But the three passengers fortunately survived after jumping out of the vehicle, the report said.

Tropical Depression Isang made landfall in Casiguran, Aurora, on Friday morning. The strong winds and rains caused power disruption in the province.
