P74.8M worth of illegal drugs intercepted in Sorsogon

Authorities confiscated P74.8 million worth of illegal drugs in Sorsogon on Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

The items, consisting of 11 kilograms of suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia, were seized in Matnog Port, Barangay Caloocan in Matnog.

The operation was conducted by the PCG, in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other partner law enforcement units.

The PCG said PDEA informed the Coast Guard Sub-Station Matnog that there was an alleged vehicle transporting illegal drugs through the port.

Two Coast Guard K-9 dogs detected the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle, prompting authorities to inspect further.

Two suspects were arrested, a 19-year-old male from Pualas, Lanao del Sur, and a 34-year-old male from San Miguel, Manila.

They are to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. —KG, GMA Integrated News
