9-year-old student swept away by flood in Davao del Sur

A nine-year-old student died after he was swept away by floodwater in Barangay Managa in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

The student drowned after playing along a canal on Friday afternoon, according to a report by King Pandia on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

According to the Bansalan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the victim’s body was found 200 meters from the school.

Based on police investigation, a 12-year-old student saw the victim playing with another nine-year-old student when the canal suddenly surged and swept them away.

The 12-year-old student tried to help the victims, but was also swept away by the floodwater.

Residents worked together to rescue the students.
