Woman killed after truck rams into fruit stand in Mabitac, Laguna

A 65-year-old woman was killed while her grandchildren were injured after a truck lost its brakes and rammed into her fruit stand in Mabitac, Laguna early morning last Friday, August 29.

According to initial investigation by the Mabitac Police, the truck lost its brakes nearly 7 a.m. last Friday, causing the driver to jump out of the vehicle before it rammed into the fruit stand, with the victim caught between the stand and a house.

Video footage shows that the truck was blaring its horn, and the driver jumping out of the vehicle, before limping to the side of the road. He is currently at large, and is set to be surrendered by the truck owner, as reported by Emil Sumangil on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

The family of the victim did not grant interviews, but the local police said they are open to settling with the trucking company, as two of the victim’s grandchildren were reported to have been injured.

Authorities are having difficulties in removing the vehicle, as the accident may have caused damage to the structure of the house, and could cause the second story to collapse. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
